Background
The idea of learning how to play the banjo was a thought of mine for quite a while because I have been around it so long/much. When I was younger my father was in a bluegrass band that would meet at our house about every Sunday night. It always looked interesting to me so here I am now, finally having to make time to try it. In my 12 week process, I will be working my way up to learning a complete song. (turkey in the straw) I will be going through this process with Jessica Crosby, who is playing the guitar.
Steps
Week 1: I will learn how to tune a banjo
Week 2: I will learn left hand fretting
Week 3: I will learn right hand roles
Week 4: I will learn how to slide on the left hand frets. A slide is where you get 2 sounds out of one string by sliding you finger down the neck of the guitar to another fret.
Week 5: I will learn how to hammer on the left hand frets.
Week 6: I will learn how to pull off on the left hand frets.
Week 7: I will learn the difference and how to play the difference between Scruggs style and melodic style which is what turkey in the straw uses.
Week 8-12: I will learn how to putt all the things learned into turkey in the straw with Jessica Crosby who is playing the guitar. In these 12 weeks I will separate the song into 3 parts and add on to each part each week. The finals week I will dedicate to perfecting and practicing the song.
