Week 125/9/2018 I HAVE ACCEPTED DEFEAT!!! I have realized that playing an instrument is hard and I have very little time to practice. Being a student athlete, makes it very hard to manage my academics, sports and extra activities.

Week 115/2/2018 I am continuing the struggle of finding time to practice, but we still have a couple more weeks to go. It's cram time! The next week, I will be pushing myself to the limits.
Week 104/25/2018 This week, I have continued doing the same thing. I am still pushing trough but it is a really big struggle. I think it is safe to say that I have been defeated in the project.
Week 94/18/2018 We kept learning the song and to be honest things are not going as planned. Between the 2 of us, we are really struggling to find time for practice. We both are involved in sports that take up our weekends and during the weekday evenings, we are swamped with homework or studying. We are still working at it though, it is just not as much as we would like. In order to master a musical instrument in the 12 weeks we have, we should be on a schedule of practicing at least 30 minutes per night.
Week 84/11/2018 This week went as planned. I have tried to stay on track with the song and it is very hard but I am slowly learning it. This week has gone pretty good for the most part, I have had a hard time finding time to practice because of track but over the song is coming along.
Week 73/28/2018 This week I am continuing on learning the song. I am still learning the first part of the song and it gets easier and easier as I go. Even though it isn't very smooth yet, I still can feel and see a great change in the sound and fluency of each note I play.
Week 63/25/2018 This week is a carry on of the last week. I just kept improving my skills of the banjo and kept on working on the portion of song that I have written out. This week has gone pretty good but I am learning very fast that learning to play an instrument is very difficult. I will pick it up and play it but then will let it sit a couple days and pick it back up but just in that little frame of time, my skills have already gotten pretty rusty. This is a very challenging project that I am doing, but I know that if I keep working on it then I will be able to confidently play turkey in the straw.
Week 53/14/2018 This week I have learned the first part of the song along side of Jessie Crosby who has learned the first part of the song on the guitar. What is the First Part of the Song? How Did it Go? It went well, I didn’t have time to video it but you will here probably about a fourth of it next week. There were some parts in it that were really tricky because my hands were a little to small but I’m slowly getting there. This is a hard thing to undergo but if I practice a lot then I can master the skill that I have always wanted. This week was a long week because I had so much stuff going on that it has been hard to find time so next week I will need to drill down a schedule and stick to it. Week 43/7/2018 This week I have learned right hand roles along side Jessie Crosby who has learned the right hand strums with a pick. What are right hand role? Right hand roles are what allow the sound to come out of the string/fret. Roles are like patterns because while playing, you want to have a little movements as possible to save you time and to make it more smooth. Roles play a very important role in playing the banjo because without them, you won't have any sound. If all know is how to fret, then you wouldn't get anywhere. There are many different patterns but most of the time your ring finger and index finger will hit the first string, your middle finger will hit the second string, and your thumb will hit the 3rd, 4th, and 5th string. Above you see the same picture as last week but now instead of focusing on the numbers and circles, you will focus on the letter like I, M, R, or T. I means index finger, M means middle finger, R means ring finger, and T means thumb. They are place in the are that they are because that is the string you pick with that certain finger. The thumb is circled because that's when you move it down to the specified string. How did I do? Below you will see the roles. They go from first string to the second string, then to the fifth string and next to the second string. Then to the fifth string and lastly to the first string. Week 32/28/2018 This week I have learned how to left hand fret on the banjo along side of Jessica Crosby learned how to left hand fret on the guitar What is Left Hand Fretting? Fretting is the play (of a note) while pressing the string down against a fret. The frets on a banjo are the horizontal line on the neck of a banjo. There are typically 22 frets on a standard banjo. The concept of fretting can be a little confusing but once you do it a little bit, it gets easier because of muscle memory. There are no real steps to fretting because it is different for all songs. During this process, I will focus mainly on the fretting but also when i press the cord on the fret; I will pick the strings that have been pressed, and see if i have applied enough pressure to get a clean sound. How did I do? This week went great, I learned how to fret properly so I am now another step closer to learning how to play the banjo! I learned how to get a proper sound out of the fret. This video will will show you. it may sound a little choppy but I’m not an expert yet, it will still take a lot of practice but other than that I thought I did great with it. Below are the frets I played. Since neither my dad or I know how to read music, we use this sheet to write out the song. The numbers on the side are the strings (1,2,3,4,5) and the numbers on the lines are the frets (9,10,7,5,6). The open circles are the strings you pick that don’t need to be fretted. They are on the lines because that’s the string you pick in the specified fret. The letters at the bottom are for you right hand roles, but I have not completely learned that yet but I will by next week.
